Every Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid sold in the UK uses a Type 2 (IEC 62196) charging port for AC charging. Whether you drive an EQA, EQC, or the flagship EQS, the cable you need for home and public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

Which Mercedes Models Need a Type 2 Cable?

All UK-spec Mercedes-Benz EVs and PHEVs use Type 2 for AC charging:

  • Mercedes EQA — Type 2, up to 11kW AC
  • Mercedes EQB — Type 2, up to 11kW AC
  • Mercedes EQC — Type 2, up to 7.4kW AC
  • Mercedes EQE — Type 2, up to 22kW AC
  • Mercedes EQS — Type 2, up to 22kW AC
  • Mercedes EQV — Type 2, up to 11kW AC
  • GLC PHEV, C-Class PHEV, E-Class PHEV — Type 2, typically up to 7.4kW AC

Note: For DC rapid charging, Mercedes EVs use a CCS2 (Combined Charging System) inlet — but this is built into the car. You only need a Type 2 cable for AC charging at home or at public AC charge points.

Single Phase or Three Phase?

Single phase (7.4kW): Suitable for most UK homes and standard 7kW public charge points. The EQC and most PHEVs are limited to 7.4kW anyway, so single phase is sufficient.

Three phase (22kW): The EQE and EQS both support 22kW AC charging — but only if you have a three-phase supply and a 22kW charge point. If you're charging at home, single phase is almost certainly what you have. Three phase is more common in workplaces or commercial premises.

5M or 10M?

Most customers choose 10M for the flexibility. The longer cable means you're never caught short if the charge point is on the wrong side of the car, or if parking positions vary.

If your wallbox is mounted directly beside where you park and the charging port is always in the same position, 5M is fine.
