Which Connector Does an Audi Use?

All Audi electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models sold in the UK use a Type 2 (Mennekes) charge port for AC charging. This covers the full e-tron and Q4 e-tron range, plus PHEV variants of the A3, A6, A7, Q3, Q5, and Q7.

For home charging and public AC charge points, you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

Single Phase or Three Phase for Audi?

  • Audi A3 TFSI e (PHEV) — 3.7kW single phase only
  • Audi Q3 45 TFSI e (PHEV) — 3.7kW single phase only
  • Audi Q5 TFSI e (PHEV) — up to 7.4kW single phase
  • Audi e-tron 55 / e-tron S — up to 11kW AC (three phase capable)
  • Audi Q4 e-tron — up to 11kW AC (three phase capable)
  • Audi Q8 e-tron — up to 11kW AC (three phase capable)

If your Audi is a PHEV, single phase is almost certainly correct. If you have a full electric e-tron or Q4/Q8 model, check your car's spec to confirm whether it supports 11kW three phase.

Where Is the Charge Port on Audi Models?

On most Audi EVs and PHEVs, the charge port is on the rear nearside (passenger-side rear panel). If your wallbox is at the front of your parking space, you may need a 10M cable to reach a rear-mounted port comfortably.

Our Recommendation

  • Audi A3/Q3/Q5 TFSI e PHEV → Type 2 to Type 2, 5M or 10M, single phase
  • Audi e-tron / Q4 e-tron / Q8 e-tron → Type 2 to Type 2, 5M or 10M, three phase (if you have three phase supply) or single phase
